673d Medical Group offers new 24-hour prescription refill option
JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska – The 673d Medical Group at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson now has a ScriptCenter Kiosk, providing users contactless access to refill prescriptions. While accessible to all, the automated kiosk will be of particular benefit to those working night and swing shifts, offering a modern and secure way for users to collect their prescriptions on their schedule.
“The ScriptCenter Kiosk advances the JBER Ready Airman and Soldier mission by providing modern pharmaceutical capability and after-hours prescription access that is conducive to their work schedules,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Brian Johnson, commander of the 673d Medical Support Squadron.
The kiosk, located in the Emergency Department waiting area, houses 44 non-refrigerated lockers. Users can place refill orders in the Military Health System GENESIS Patient Portal. If requests are made for refridgerated medication they will be routed to a standard pharmacy, and the individual will be notified when it is available.
The ScriptCenter has been designed to make refilling prescriptions easy. In the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal under the Rx refill tab, users can select the ScriptCenter under the ‘choose a pharmacy’ option. There will be an initial sign-up process when first using the kiosk. Users will set up a four-digit PIN for secure access. When picking up an order it is recommended to bring military ID and the prescription number. The lockers are accessible to both active-duty members and their dependents with valid ID.
Airman 1st Class Rossukon Gonphila, pharmacy technician assigned to the 673d MDSS, has been leading the program at JBER. Gonphila highlighted the benefit of the system helping those who have difficulty accessing pharmacy services during business hours.
“Some operations have personnel working night shifts, or shifts where they can’t pick up during normal hours,” said Gonphila. “They have the opportunity to pick up at the ScriptCenter even after we are closed.”
